Biografía de la Banda [editar]

La banda comenzo como un proyecto en solitario del penultimo hermano de 15 años, Nicholas. El fue descubierto mientras cantaba en una peluqueria y fue recomendado a un profesional de negocios de shows. Poco después Nick ya se encontraba presentándose en Broadway; donde tuvo una muy fructuosa carrera que incluyen las obras “Beauty and the Beast” (2002 en el papel de Chip), “Annie Get Your Gun” (como el pequeño Jake), “A Christmas Carol” (como Tiny Tim y Scrooge a los 8), “Les Misérables” (en 2003, como Gavroche) y “The Sound of Music” (como Kurt) en Paper Mill Playhouse. En el 2002, Nick escribió una canción para su padre titulada "Joy To The World (A Christmas Prayer)", quien enseguida la interpretó y fue lanzada en el álbum anual del 2002 "Equity Fights AIDS", Broadway’s Greatest Hits: Carols for a Cure, Vol. 4. En Noviembre del 2003 la disquera INO Records recibió una copia del sencillo de Nick "Joy To The World (A Christmas Prayer)". La firma lanzo la canción a la estación de Christian radio, donde rápidamente se volvió popular en el Radio's Christian Adult Contemporary Chart.

En septiembre del 2004, Nicholas compusó "Dear God", que en conjunto con “Joy to the world” llamó la atención de un ejecutivo de la disquera Columbia Records. Pronto el ingresó a la firma INO Records y Columbia Records, donde lanzó su segundo sencillo "Joy To The World (A Christmas Prayer)", esta vez ya interpretada por el mismo el 16 de Noviembre que seguido del lanzamiento de el que sería el primer disco solista de Nick, hecho que se retrasó. Nick, junto con sus hermanos, Joe & Kevin, escribieron canciones para el álbum. A inicios del año 2005, el nuevo presidente de Columbia Records, Steve Greenberg, escuchó el álbum que no había sido lanzado, y aunque no le agradó el estilo, si lo hizo la voz de Nick. Poco después lo citó y le presentó la canción de “Please be mine”, escrita e interpretada por los hermanos. Las casas disqueras Daylight/Columbia Records en colaboración decidieron firmar a los tres como un grupo.

Pese a que el álbum del álbum solista de Nick fue cancelado, una canción de éste, “Crazy kinda crush on you” fue en Mayo 17 del 2005 parte de la banda sonora en la serie de Boomerang “Darcy's Wild Life”.

Inicio de la banda [editar]

Originalmente, usaban el nombre de "Sons of Jonas" (Hijos de Jonas). Pero la decisión final fue "Jonas Brothers". Durante el 2005, the Jonas Brothers participaron en varias giras, incluyendo a Kelly Clarkson, Jesse McCartney, the Backstreet Boys y the Click Five. La parte final del año participaron en una campaña anti drogas con Aly & AJ y The Cheetah Girls. Además abrieron los conciertos para The Veronicas a principios del 2006, seguidamente en el año 2007 iniciaron una gira con Hannah Montana, papel interpretado por la joven Miley Cyrus, titulado "The Best of Both Worlds" que fue filmado y estrenado en el año 2008.

Para su primer álbum, titulado “It's About Time”, la banda colaboró con varios escritores, como Adam Schlesinger, Michael Mangini, Desmond Child, Billy Mann y Steve Greenberg; que a su vez han participado con grandes personalidades como Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Destiny's Child, Jessica Simpson, Hanson, Fountains of Wayne y Joss Stone. También incluyeron covers de dos hits de la banda británica Busted, “Year 3000” y “What I go to school for. Se estimaba que el album fuera lanzado en febrero del 2006, pero se retrasó unas cuantas veces. La demora se debió a los cambios de ejecutivos de Sony (la compañía madre de Columbia) y el deseo de ellos de tener otro sencillo al frente.

Mientras tanto, su primer sencillo, “Mandy” fue lanzado el 27 de Diciembre del 2005. El video musical de éste se transmitió en el programa de MTV, “Total Request Live”, TRL, en febrero del 2006 donde alcanzó el lugar numero 4 del codiciado top. En marzo, "Mandy" también se incluyó en la pelicula para televisión de Nickelodeon, Zoey 101: Spring Break-Up y en el álbum Zoey 101: Music Mix Soundtrack, donde se enlista como intérprete Nicholas Jonas.

La música de éste grupo también ha sido usada en “Friday Cartoon Cartoon” de Cartoon Network. La banda realizó el cover de Yo Ho (A Pirate's Life for Me)" de la película Piratas del Caribe para el álbum Disney Mania 4, lanzado el 4 de abril del 2006. Durante el verano del 2006, los Jonas Brothers partieron a un tour con Aly & AJ. Poco después participaron también en el tema canción principal de la serie de Disney Channel “American Dragon: Jake Long” (en Latino America Jake Long: El dragón occidental) para la segunda temporada, al aire de Junio 2006 a Septiembre 200`7.

Finalmente el álbum “It's About Time” se lanzó el 8 de agosto de 2006. De acuerdo con el manager de la banda, hubo un lanzamiento limitado de solo 50,000 copias, ya que Sony no estaba interesado en promover masivamente a la banda, por eso los Jonas Brothers comenzaron a considerar cambiar de firma.

El 3 de Octubre de 2006, el sencillo del 2004 de Nick "Joy to the World (A Christmas Prayer)," fue re-lanzado en el álbum Joy to the World: The Ultimate Christmas Collection. También en octubre los Jonas Brothers participaron con el cover "Poor Unfortunate Souls" en la película The Little Mermaid, para el cual también filmaron un video que se incluyó en la edición especial de dos discos del soundtrack de dicha película. El segundo sencillo de su álbum fue "Year 3000". La canción se volvió popular en Radio Disney, y el video debuto en Disney Channel a mediados de Enero del 2007, época donde también dejaron Columbia Records.

En el año 2006, firmaron un contrato con la compañía Disney, para participar en la banda sonora de la película "Meet The Robinson"(en la Latinoamerica titulada "La Familia del Futuro"), con el tema "Kids of the future".

Influencias [editar]

Como todas las bandas, hay grupos musicales en los que se basan para escribir su música. Se han influenciado de Queen, My Chemical Romance, Avril Lavigne y Iggy Pop; "aunque nosotros ponemos el toque pop y especial a nuestras canciones" dijo Nick a Billboard. Kevin habla del entorno en el que ellos maduran musicalmente. "Viviendo en Nueva Jersey, que es un estado muy pequeño, las bandas locales y mundialmente famosas y exitosas como My Chemical Romance y Bon Jovi atraía la atención de todos los adolecentes que habitan el estado, entonces en ese ambiente es muy dificil escuchar algo de Liza Minelli (ríe)"

Futuros proyectos [editar]

En continuo ascenso con Disney y Hollywood Records, Disney está determinado a crearlos como otra de su firma de estrellas.

El canal Disney Channel ha transmitido el programa especial “Jonas Brothers in Concert” filmado en New York's Gramercy Park, el 6 de Octubre (en Estados Unidos). Y recientemente, el 2 de Febrero, lo transmitieron en Disney Channel de Latinoamérica, como cierre de "la semana de los Jonas Brothers", donde transmitieron también las cápsulas de Bonus Jonas Time y el estreno del capitulo de la serie juvenil "Hannah Montana" titulado "Me And Mr Jonas and Mr Jonas y Mr Jonas" (En Latino 'Yo y el Sr. Jonas, y el Sr. Jonas, y el Sr. Jonas') que tiene como invitados especiales a los Jonas Brothers.

También hay algunos proyectos en puerta, como la serie/comedia de espías, que protagonizaran Kevin, Joe, Nick y Frankie J.O.N.A.S. [Junior Operatives Networking as Spies]. Sus papeles serán sobre jóvenes superestrellas del rock que su vida gira en su tour en autobús por el país, conociendo a sus fans, dando conciertos, presentaciones en la TV… la rutina de una típica banda de adolescentes, lo increíble es que al mismo tiempo los Jonas Brothers fingen de detectives del gobierno, que junto con su padre, un super agente secreto; se encargan de frustrar los malvados planes del Dr. Harvey Fleischman, un dentista diabólico que trae entre manos tomar al mundo por medio de los adultos jóvenes.

Si suena difícil frustar propósitos maléficos para salvar al mundo, es peor cuando tienes además que asistir a la preparatoria, mantener tu identidad secreta con tu mamá y estar continuamente vigilado por la reportera Stella Malone, quien trata de estar detrás de cada última escena ¡de tu vida como super estrella!

En Toronto, Canadá; se encontro en producción Camp Rock una película musical original de Disney Channel, la cual se estrena este Verano en Estados Unidos (El lanzamiento en Latinoamerica esta pautado para semptiembre de este año) Jonas Brothers serán los miembros de una banda, "Connect 3", y serán las celebridades invitadas al prestigioso campamento de verano para los aspirantes a músicos.

Actualmente el trio iniciò una gira titulada "When You Look Me In The Eyes Tour ".

Skeletal Remains

Between 1995 and 1997 lake Of dracula forged a singular approach to dissonant, minimalistic rock music pre-dating both the neo-"no wave" nostalgia trip (popularized by bands like yeah yeah yeahs and liars) and the current noise rock insurgence (led by lightning bolt and wolf eyes) by years. based in chicago, LOD was a veritable midwestern underground supergroup featuring James "Marlon" Magas (Couch, Magas), Weasel Walter (The Flying Luttenbachers, XBXRX), Heather M. (The Scissor Girls), "The Manhattanite" (a.k.a. Al Johnson from U.S. Maple) and Jessica Ruffins (Jaks, Sea of Tombs).

Formed in late 1995, the band issued forth a succinct manifesto made of propulsive anti-rock beats and terse guitar cacophony topped with cryptic, evocative vocal assaults. the net result of this music was one of powerful, hard-edged surrealism in contrast to the introspective "post rock" more associated with the time and place. Their sole self-titled studio album was issued by skin graft records in early 1997 featuring production help by jim o'rourke (sonic youth, etc.). after a final west coast tour in summer 1997, the band called it quits and the various members went on to further infamy with their various pursuits. since then, the name Lake Of Dracula continues to be whispered in reverence throughout the rock underground. "Skeletal Remains" collects previously unreleased material and rare compilation and single tracks onto one CD (remastered by weasel walter) with extensive liner notes and photos.

Comienza en el Año 1982 y se introduce en la vida de un muchacho de mas de 19 años que se dedica a hacer deportes y realizar una vida sana hasta que un dia se encuentra con Tanaka ,un amigo de la secundaria quien le comenta que en el festival que se realizaría en la universidad tendría un stan y le pide que vaya a visitarlo...Al otro dia,Kubo aburrido en su stan decide dar una vuelta para ver lo que había,caminando se encuentra con Tanaka quien estaba disfrazado de una forma muy peculiar(de un personaje de Anime)que llama poderosamente la atencion de Kubo,Tanaka le comenta que su stan se dedica a vender fanzines,luego llegan los amigos de Kubo,vestidos tambien muy raro, quienes les ofrecen sus fanzines abrumando a Kubo...
Al dia siguiente Kubo decide visitar a Tanaka y se percata de la gran coleccion de mangas que posee y le dice que el festival de aquel dia le gustó mucho y Tanaka tomando en cuenta las palabras de Kubo decide llevarlo a un lugar diciéndole que será parecido a aquel festival...Ya en destino Tanaka dice cualquier tipo de contraseñas(típico de Otaku)lo que sorprende a Kubo,ya adentro la sorpresa de Kubo llega a su punto óptimo viendo que en la habitacion esta repleta de Animes,mangas,Juegos militares,pinturas,libros de ciencia ficcion,maquetas,video juegos y cualquier material que todo otaku necesita,tambien allí se encontraban los amigos de Tanaka que se destacaban por ser especialistas en un área determinada como por ejemplo uno en ciencia ficcion y efectos especiales,otro en el arte del dibujo,otro en armas,otro en personajes de anime,etc...Tanaka le muestra a partes de Animes que atrapan a Kubo,luego le enseña cintas de un documental de ciencia ficcion que solo se podia ver por TV,Kubo queda sorprendido,Tanaka le dice que podrá verlos cuando quiera...
Kubo se mete de lleno en el mundo del Anime adquiriendo conocimientos que le proporcionan los amigos de Tanaka y se va convirtiendo de a poco en un Otaku...
Kubo se juntaba semanalmente en un bar con una chica llamada Yoshiro y hablaban de sus vidas y planes,Yoshiro se va dando cuenta de que Kubo cambió con el tiempo ya que lo vé muy cansado y algo excedido de peso,Kubo le dice que estuvo toda la noche esperando en la calle para esperar entrar a una proyeccion de un Anime ya que obtenian partes dibujadas originales
Yoshiro ve en Kubo una persona distinta,cambiada y con diferentes aspiraciones que semanas atras y de a poco se va alejando de él...
Ya en 1984 se proyectaba la pelicula de Nadesico y allí estarian Kubo y sus amigos a altas horas de la noche esperando prescenciarla cuando llega un muchacho corriendo con dibujos de la pelicula de Macross,todos admiran los dibujos,pagina por pagina,hasta que Tanaka se detiene en un dibujo de Lynn Minmay y le dice bromeando a Kubo que se parecia mucho a Yoshiro...
Kubo al otro día decide llamr a Yoshiro pero atiende aparentemente su nuevo novio lo que sorprende de tal manera a Kubo que cuelga el teléfono...
La siguiente noche Kubo y Tanaka saldrian a buscar empleo y sentados en una fuente Kubo reflexiona el hecho de si ver animacion esta mal y si los otakus son discrimados no le interesa ,él se convertirá en un otaku total,el otaku de los otakus,se convertirá en un OTAKING!!!
Los dos comienzan su propio negocio llamando a su empresa "Grand PriX"(GP) y haciendo "Garage Kits", consiguiendo licencias, poniendo sus productos en exposiciones logran poner finalmente su local ,consiguiendo una ayudante llamada Fukuhara... La empresa crece rapido economicamente y gracias a exposiciones ,revistas y publicidad logran construir su gran sede,inaugurando su gran edificio...
En 1987 "GP" ha alcanzado casi la cima en tan solo un año de ventas,pero Kubo todavia le quedó un sueño,crear OTAKULAND un sitio para reunir las necesidades de cualquier otaku y llegar a la cumbre...haciendo que Yoshiro se arrepienta de haberlo dejado,Tanaka no puede creer lo reencoroso que es...
En una reunion de directores hablan sobre realizar Garage Kits creando un nuevo modelo,para eso pidieron yenes prestados al banco...Kubo quiere que el nuevo producto se distribuya primero en China y para eso se deberá hacer allí, una fabrica... Kubo parte rumbo a China dejando a su equipo en Japón...
Mientras tanto en Japón el negocio de los Garage Kits decae y con él Grand Prix,pero una idea puede salvar a la companía,el nuevo producto... La fabrica se construye y el nuevo producto sale a la venta pero en plena fiesta de inauguracion lo llaman a Kubo de Japón para una reunion de directores.Kubo ya en GP se encuentra con el presidente del banco que le brindó dinero a la compania,éste comienza una votacion de directores con el objetivo de cambiar de presidente,Kubo no entiende nada,todos votan a favor de el cambio y ante la mirada de Kubo le presentan a la nueva presidente nada menos que Yoshiro Ueno,su antigua amiga universitaria...
Kubo fue engañado y encima le encargan un puesto de poca importancia en la compañia,pasando a ser un simple empleado... En 1991 Kubo muy enojado decide renunciar a Grand PriX,mientras que la compania lanza el nuevo producto en Japón y causa un éxito abrumador vendiéndose en todos los locales de Japon...
Kubo ya sin empleo pasa por un local de Grand PriX en donde ve en la cola de espera a Tanaka,quien sale corriendo perseguido por Kubo,este lo alcanza y Tanaka le dice que fue un tonto,fue usado por la gente del banco,y cuando sacaron el nuevo producto los echaron a todos como basura,tiene un pobre empleo y no puede dejar sus habitos por eso estaba allí,Kubo le propone empezar de nuevo...
Tanaka tiene la idea de hacer videos con una camara de 8-mm,para luego complementarlo con libros,Garage kits y todo tipo de merchandising, y que tiene un contacto que podrá dibujar los personajes,ella es Fukuhara su antigua asistente quien trae el diseño de la protagonista y se complementará con las ideas de Tanaka y así crearian su nueva compania,"Giant X"(GX)...
El proyecto se pone en marcha y se van haciendo los dibujos y los videos respectivos... Los videos salen a la venta y causan un impacto muy positivo en los fans,haciendose rapidamente un Anime muy popular y saliendo en las revistas de Anime mas leídas... El producto se proyecta en cines y siendo cada vez mas popular y conocido,construyendo el studio de grabacion GX para seguir emitiendo videos hasta llegar a ser internacional... En 1997 se construye OTAKULAND,el sueño de Kubo,en donde acuden miles de Otakus...
Something More:
La Película contiene relatos de Otakus verdaderos que son estremecedores escucharlos y ver hasta donde se puede llegar solo con ver Animes,por eso la palabra Otaku se debe aplicar a ciertos casos solamente...(Gracias GAINAX por existir!!!)

Japan 2007: How to draw manga with Osamu Tezuka

So the last entry had my visit to the Osamu Tezuka Manga Museum in Takarazuka, Japan. One of the coolest features of the museum is one that I didn’t show you: Little How-to-draw and how-to-create-characters instructional illustrations by Tezuka that were set into the floor. Although it’s probably an exercise for the kids or something, I still thought it would be cool to show you the illustrations, and hopefully you find them interesting (or useful!). Enjoy!

Finally, Amy Kim Ganter (creator of Sorcerers and Secretaries from Tokyopop) let me know that she and her husband Kazu Kibuishi just got back from a trip to Japan in December, and they’ve got tons of their own photos of Japan to ooh and aah over (they’re pretty awesome…). China busca supervivientes entre los escombros días después del terremoto

PEKÍN | BEICHUAN (CHINA).- Cinco días después del terremoto que removió el suroeste de China, el peor de las últimas tres décadas, siguen apareciendo personas vivas bajo los escombros. Los servicios de rescate han conseguido recuperar a 63 supervivientes, según la agencia de noticias china.

El número de fallecidos en Sichuan y en las provincias vecinas por el terremoto del pasado lunes supera los 32.477 y el de heridos aumentó a 220.109, según ha anunciado la oficina de atención a emergencias.

Las localidades con más víctimas mortales son Mianyang, con 11.874, y Deyang, con 10.341, de acuerdo con los datos oficiales. Nuevos seísmos continúan provocando heridos. Al menos tres personas fallecieron el domingo por un fuerte réplica.

"Aunque ha pasado el tiempo para tener mejores posibilidades de rescate (...) salvar vidas sigue siendo la máxima prioridad de nuestro trabajo" dijo el presidente Hu Jintao a los angustiados supervivientes del terremoto, que afectó fundamentalmente a la provincia de Sichuan. Se estima que el balance final de víctimas puede superar los 50.000 muertos.

El presidente Hu ha inspeccionado el condado de Wenchuan, epicentro del terremoto, donde alabó a los trabajadores de rescate por su valentía. Entre los supervivientes, 57 han sido socorridos en Yingxiu, en este condado.

En Deyang, donde las autoridades calculan que ha habido 20.000 muertos, una mujer de 31 años fue rescatada. En la vecina ciudad de Shifang se rescató a un hombre de 33.

En la ciudad de Dujiangyan se rescató a dos personas. Una mujer de 61 años, que había pasado 127 horas bajo los escombros fue rescatada por personal ruso, en el primer rescate de un equipo extranjero. En esta localidad también se ha rescatado a un hombre de 46 años, Zhang Xiaoping, que había pasado 129 horas atrapado bajo los restos de un edificio residencial. El hombre fue conducido de inmediato para que le amputasen las dos piernas.

En el distrito de Beichuan se liberó a dos hombres, de 52 y 69 años, atrapados bajo bloques de hormigón. El sexagenario había pasado 119 horas bajo tierra.

Sin embargo, las labores de rescate se han visto dificultadas por las réplicas del terremoto, el mal clima, el terreno peligroso y la amenaza de inundaciones. De hecho, las labores fueron suspendidas en el condado de Beichuan después de que cundiese la alarma por el temor a que un lago se desbordase.

Miedo a inundaciones

Los trabajadores de rescate regresaron después a sus tareas, pero miles de chinos han huido de sus hogares y no han regresado, nerviosos por un lago formado después de que réplicas del terremoto provocaran corrimientos de tierra que bloquearon el flujo de un río.

Los medios oficiales se apresuraron a aclarar que se trató de una falsa alarma, pero los informes previos no parecían indicar que el peligro fuese ficticio. Según dijo inicialmente un oficial paramilitar, la posibilidad de que el lago se desbordara era "extremadamente grande".

La situación era "muy peligrosa porque todavía hay temblores causando deslaves que podrían dañar la represa", dijo Luo Gang, un trabajador de construcción que abandonó la ciudad porteña sudoriental de Xiamen y se dirigía a su hogar a buscar a su novia desaparecida.

El Servicio Geológico de Estados Unidos (USGS por su sigla en inglés) informó de un seísmo de magnitud 6,1 que se registró a 80 kilómetros al oeste de Guangyuan. Se trata del más reciente y el mayor de una serie de réplicas que han sacudido a la provincia de Sichuan desde el seísmo del pasado lunes. No hubo noticias inmediatas de daños o víctimas en la zona.

'¿Qué pasará ahora?'

En tanto el clima se vuelve mas tibio, los supervivientes estaban preocupados por la higiene y realizaban preguntas sobre su futuro a largo plazo.

Sazae-san
Less in the realm of cute are cartoon 'people', such as Sazae-san, Chibi Maruko and Crayon Shin-chan. These characters and their families represent different takes on Japanese life and culture. They encapsulate the generational changes of the postwar years as well as any sociological study could do. Perhaps the best-loved and certainly the longest-running cartoon series is Sazae-san, shown at 6:30 on Sunday evenings. Sazae (a type of shellfish - like all the characters, her name is related to the sea) is a 23-year old housewife who lives with her parents, younger brother and sister, husband and baby son.At home, Sazae is surrounded by the usual electrical appliances, drawn to resemble the latest models by Toshiba, the show's sponsor! But otherwise life is firmly rooted in a world that is no more than a fading memory for today's Japanese. The characters were created in a comic book (right) by manga artist Hasegawa Machiko (1920~92) shortly after World War II and have been on TV since 1969. Hasegawa was something of a recluse and the darker side of life in postwar Japan was part of her work.

But modern-day problems rarely intrude into the TV show and key features are the opening credits showing various scenic spots around the country and the timely inclusion of seasonal and festive elements. This together with the always-polite language of the characters, makes the show excellent for students of Japan's language and culture. For Japanese, Sazae-san - like the Tora-san movie series - provides a chance to shake off the worries of work and school and soak in the warm glow of nostalgia.

Is Sazae San Depressing?

It’s Sunday evening in Japan, and all across the land people are suffering from “Sazae-San Syndrome.” Sazae-San is a popular, long-running family cartoon that has been broadcast every Sunday at 6:30pm on Fuji TV for thirty five years. Although the show is light-hearted and extols simple family values, it tends to depress people because they have come to associate the program with the end of the weekend. Upon seeing the closing credits of the show, viewers start to think of returning to work or school the next day and become overwhelmed with feelings of melancholy and worthlessness.
Among those most vulnerable to the condition are people without hobbies, or those who spend the weekend at home watching TV. Young men and women living alone are also known to be afflicted with homesickness while viewing the nostalgic family show.
Who would have thought a good-natured show like Sazae-San would have such a potent power to bum people out?

SAZAESAN

What is SAZAESAN?

SAZAESAN was written by Hasegawa Machiko. In Showa 21 years, SAZAESAN started as a serial comic in the evening edition of the FUKUNICHI. Hasegawa walked with her sister to seaside everyday and she thought of this comic. So SAZAESAN’s characters are marine products.

After SAZAESAN ended as a serial comic in the evening edition of the FUKUNICHI, this sequel started in the ASAHI SHINBUN from Showa 24 to 49. And then in Showa 44, this animation started on FUJI Television and is still being broadcast now.

SAZAESAN Family Structure

The SAZAESAN family structure is difficult. The major SAZAESAN characters include Sazae, Namihei, Fune, Masuo, Katuo, Wakame, Tarao, Norisuke, Taiko, Ikura and Tama.

Namihei is a descendant of Isono Mokuzu Minamotono Sutamina and Isono’s second son. His wife is Fune. She is Isida’s oldest daughter. Their children are Sazae, Katuo and Wakame. Sazae is married with Masuo. Masuo is Fuguta’s younger son. Their child is Tarao. These members make up the SAZAESAN family. So you know, this family has two surnames: Isono and Fuguta

Norisuke has descended of Isono because his mother is Nagie who is Namihei’s sister. Norisuke is Namino’s fourth son. He is married with Taiko and their child is Ikura.

Next year, she changed to Yamawaki Girls’ High School and then she became the student of the famous cartoonist Tanaka Suihou. In Showa 11, she completed “TANUKINO OMEN” that is her debut work. In Showa 21, she created SAZAESAN and this started as a serial comic in the evening edition of the FUKUNICHI. After a while, SAZAESAN was discontinued suddenly but after 3 years this sequel started in the ASAHI SHINBUN.SAZAESAN ran 6477 times in the paper. She died in Showa 60 years. My Impressions

I think SAZAESAN is known to all people. This animation average program rating is 25%. Why has SAZAESAN become famous? I think this answer has to do with the time of broadcasting and contents. SAZAESAN is broadcasted at 6:30 on Sundays, when a lot of people prepare dinner and watch TV, so they are in their home. Next, I think this story is easy to win their sympathy because the family structure and the stories are general. I think these points have helped make SAZAESAN become famous.

I think Hasegawa Machiko is a little strange woman because SAZAESAN’s characters are unusual. This is my selfish opinion; Tarao and Katuo’s age gap is small. I think this is a disagreeable relation. Especially Wakame has difficulty communicating with Tarao because Katuo and Wakame are the uncle and aunt of Tarao and Tarao is the son of their sister. This is unusual relation. Hasegawa Machiko thinks of such a family structure, so I think she is a little strange woman, but SAZAESAN is interesting, so I don’t think seriously about this problem.

Naruto has a large and colorful cast of characters, running a gamut of detailed histories and complex personalities, and allowing many of them their fair share in the spotlight; they also seem to grow and mature throughout the series, as it spans several years. As is fitting for a coming-of-age saga, Naruto's world constantly expands and thickens, and his social relations are no exception – during his introduction he has only his teacher and the village's leader for sympathetic figures, but as the story progresses, more and more people become a part of his story.

The students at the Ninja Academy, where the story begins, are split up into squads of three after their graduation and become Genin, rookie ninja. Each squad is assigned an experienced sensei.[7] These core squads form a basis for the characters' interactions later in the series, where characters are chosen for missions for their team's strength and complementary skills; Naruto's squad 7 becomes the social frame where Naruto is acquainted with Sasuke and Sakura, and their sensei Kakashi, forming the core of his world-in-the-making.[6] The other three-man teams of his former classmates form another such layer, as Naruto connects with them to various degrees, learning of their motives, vulnerabilities, and aspirations, often relating them to his own. The groups of three are not limited to the comrades Naruto's age – groups in the story in general come in threes and multiples of three with very few exceptions.

Sensei-student relationships play a significant role in the series; Naruto has a number of mentors with whom he trains and learns, most notably Iruka, the first ninja to recognize Naruto's existence, Kakashi, his team leader, and Jiraiya, and there are often running threads of tradition and tutelage binding together several generations. These role models provide guidance for their students not only in the ninja arts but also in a number of Japanese aesthetics and philosophical ideals. Techniques, ideals, and mentalities noticeably run in families, Naruto often being exposed to the abilities and traditions of generation-old clans in his village when friends from his own age group demonstrate them, or even achieve improvements of their own; it is poignantly noted that Naruto's generation is particularly talented.

Character names often borrow from Japanese folklore and literature (such as the names borrowed from the folktale Jiraiya Goketsu Monogatari), or are otherwise elaborate puns; often there is a noticeable influence of the story behind the name of a character.[8]

Main characters

The story focuses on Team 7, a group of ninja affiliated with the village of Konohagakure, and it is composed of the series' primary characters. Due to Sasuke Uchiha's departure from Konohagakure at the end of Part I, the team is disbanded. During Part II, the team is reformed with two new members, Sai, who occupies Sasuke's position, and Yamato, who acts as Kakashi's replacement when he is briefly incapacitated and later stays with the team when Kakashi returns.[9]

* Naruto Uzumaki (うずまき　ナルト, Uzumaki Naruto?) is the primary protagonist of the series. He was the first character created by Kishimoto during his initial conception of the series, and was designed with many traits from other shōnen characters, including Son Goku of the Dragon Ball franchise.[10] In the series, Naruto is a ninja affiliated with the village of Konohagakure, and has ambitions of becoming Hokage, or the leader of the village. Due to being the host for the nine-tailed demon fox, a malevolent creature that attacked Konohagakure, he is ostracized by the other villagers.[11] He compensates for this with his cheerful and boisterous personality, and over the course of the series, manages to befriend several other Konohagakure ninja, as well as ninja from other villages. He obtains an especially close relationship with Sasuke Uchiha, one of his fellow ninja in Team 7, and treats him as his brother.[12] In the original Japanese anime, Naruto's seiyū is Junko Takeuchi, and his English voice provider is Maile Flanagan.

* Sasuke Uchiha (うちはサスケ, Uchiha Sasuke?) is one of the members of Team 7. He was created by Kishimoto to be a rival to Naruto, as well as a "cool genius," which Kishimoto believed was an integral part of an ideal rivalry.[13] He is one of the few remaining members of the Uchiha clan, his brother, Itachi Uchiha, having killed the rest of their family.[14] Due to this, Sasuke's sole desire is to kill his brother, and he develops a cold and withdrawn personality.[15] His interactions with his fellow teammates, especially Naruto Uzumaki, make him focus less on revenge, but an encounter with his brother, who leaves Sasuke beaten physically and mentally, causes Sasuke to leave the village to seek more power from the criminal Orochimaru.[16] His teammates' attempts to recover him from Orochimaru form a major component of the plot in Part II of the Naruto storyline. In the Japanese anime, Sasuke's seiyū is Noriaki Sugiyama, and his English voice actor is Yuri Lowenthal.

* Sakura Haruno (春野　サクラ, Haruno Sakura?) is the sole female member of Team 7. Kishimoto created her as the heroine of the story, although he has admitted that he has little perception of what an ideal heroine should be.[13] As a child, Sakura was taunted by other children for her particularly large forehead, a feature Kishimoto has tried to emphasize in Sakura's appearances,[17] but was comforted by Ino Yamanaka. As the two continued to grow, however, they became increasingly distant due to their shared affection for Sasuke Uchiha. During most of Part I, Sakura is infatuated with Sasuke, and spurns the advances of Naruto Uzumaki.[7] After Sasuke leaves the village, she resolves to become stronger by training with Tsunade.[18] In Part II, she displays highly developed skills from her training, and a more open disposition towards Naruto.[19][20] In the Japanese anime, her seiyū is Chie Nakamura, and she is voiced by Kate Higgins in the English adaptation of the anime.

* Kakashi Hatake (はたけ　カカシ, Hatake Kakashi?) is the leader of Team 7 and the sensei of Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura. Kishimoto had originally intended for Kakashi to be introduced earlier in the series, and created him as an easygoing person that would be able to keep the members of Team 7 in check.[21] Kakashi treats his leadership position with a detached manner, and is consistently late to meetings as a result.[22] In a gaiden on Kakashi's past, this is shown to be the result of an incident in which he witnessed the death of one of his teammates, Obito Uchiha, who gave Kakashi his Sharingan eye and imparted many of his habits, including his tardiness.[23] Due to Obito's Sharingan, Kakashi has amassed a reputation as a skilled and powerful ninja, earning the moniker "Copy Ninja Kakashi" (コピー忍者のカカシ, Kopī Ninja no Kakashi?).[24] Although he mentors all three members of Team 7 early in the series, he particularly concentrates on training Sasuke as the series continues, teaching him his Chidori technique;[25] however, he is unable to prevent Sasuke from leaving the village to seek Orochimaru for greater power.[26] Kakashi is voiced by Kazuhiko Inoue in the Japanese anime, and his English voice actor is Dave Wittenberg.

Production

Kishimoto first authored a one-shot of Naruto in the August 1997 issue of Akamaru Jump.[1] The original Naruto had a significant theming on friendship and trust. At the beginning of the story, neither Naruto or Kuroda trusted anyone, but by the end both befriended and trusted each other. Despite its high results in the reader poll after getting released, Kishimoto thought "[the] art stinks and the story's a mess!" Kishimoto also revealed that he was originally working on Karakuri for the Hop Step Award when, unsatisfied by the rough drafts, he decided to work on something different instead, which later formed into Naruto.

When an interviewer asked Kishimoto if he had any message for his Anglophone audience, Kishimoto said "I feel sometimes that Naruto is too Japanese, with all the chakra and hand signs, but as you read it you'll find that it's fun."[27]

When originally creating the Naruto story, Kishimoto looked to other shōnen manga as influences for his work, although he attempted to make his characters as unique as possible.[28] The separation of the characters into different teams was intended to give each group a specific flavor. Kishimoto wished for each member to be "extreme," having a high amount of aptitude in one given attribute yet be talentless in another."[29] The insertion of villains into the story was largely to have them act as a counterpoint to the characters' moral values. Kishimoto has admitted that this focus on illustrating the difference in values is central to to his creation of villains to the point that, "I don't really think about them in combat."[30]

When drawing the characters, Kishimoto follows a five-step process that he consistently follows: concept and rough sketch, drafting, inking, shading, and coloring. These steps are followed when he is drawing the actual manga and making the color illustrations that commonly adorn the cover of tankōbon, the cover of Weekly Shonen Jump, or other media, but the toolkit he utilizes occasionally changes.[31] For instance, he utilized an airbrush for one illustration for a Weekly Shonen Jump cover, but decided not to use it for future drawings largely due to the cleanup required.[32]

Kishimoto added that, as Naruto takes place in a "Japanese fantasy world," the creator has to "set certain rules, in a systematic way" so that he could easily "convey the story." Kishimoto wanted to "draw on" the Chinese zodiac tradition, which had a long-standing presence in Japan; the zodiac hand signs originate from this. Regarding technology Kishimoto said that Naruto would not have any firearms. He said he may include automobiles, aircraft, and "low-processing" computers; Kishimoto specified the computers would "maybe" be eight-bit and that they would "definately not" be sixteen-bit.[33]

Reception

The Naruto manga series has become one of Viz's top properties, accounting for nearly 10% of all manga sales in 2006.[34] The seventh volume of Viz's release became the first manga to ever win a Quill Award when it claimed the award for "Best Graphic Novel" in 2006.[34] As of volume 36, the manga has sold over 71 million copies in Japan.[3]

The manga also appeared in the USA Today Booklist with volume 11 holding the title of the highest ranked manga series on the list, until it was surpassed by volume 28, which claimed the 17th rank in its first week of release in March 2008.[35][36][37] Volume 28 also had one of the biggest debut weeks of any manga in years and is currently the top selling manga title of 2008.[38] During its release, volume 29 ranked #57, while the volume 28 had dropped to #139.[39] In April 2007, volume 14 earned Viz the "Manga Trade Paperback of the Year" Gem Award from Diamond Comic Distributors.[40]

The Naruto anime adaptation won the "Best Full-Length Animation Program Award" in the Third UStv Awards held in the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines.[41] In TV Asahi's latest top 100 Anime Ranking, Naruto ranked 17th on the list.[42]

Some critics panned the Battle at Hidden Falls OVA, as being a throw back to the earliest episodes of the main Naruto series. Anime News Network's reviewer called it a poor addition to the Naruto franchise that didn't "do the series justice" but may make viewers gain new appreciation for how far the series has progressed since its earliest episodes.[43]

Manga

Naruto premiered in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 1999.[44][45] The first 239 chapters are known as Part I, and constitute the first part of the Naruto storyline. Manga chapters 240 to 244 comprise a gaiden series focusing on the background of the character Kakashi Hatake. All subsequent chapters belong to Part II, which continues the storyline in Part I after a two and a half year time jump. The English adaptation of the Naruto manga is licensed by Viz and serialized in Viz's version of Shonen Jump.[44] In order to compensate for the gap between the Japanese and English adaptations of the manga, Viz announced its "Naruto Nation" campaign, where it would release three volumes a month in the last four months of 2007 in order to close said gap.[46]

As of May 2008, 42 tankōbon have been released by Shueisha in Japan, with the first twenty-seven tankōbon containing Part I, and the remaining fifteen belonging to Part II. The first tankōbon was released on March 3, 2000,[47] with the forty-second released on May 2, 2008.[48] In addition, three tankōbon, each containing ani-manga based one of the first three Naruto movies, have been released by Shueisha.[49][50][51] Viz has released 28 volumes of the English adaptation of the manga.[52]

Anime

Directed by Hayato Date and produced by Studio Pierrot and TV Tokyo, the Naruto anime adaptation premiered in Japan on TV Tokyo October 3, 2002, and ran for 220 episodes until its conclusion on February 8, 2007.[53][54] The first 130 episodes are adapted from the first twenty-seven volumes of the manga, while the remaining ninety episodes are filler episodes that utilize plot elements not seen in the original manga.

Viz has licensed the anime series for broadcast and distribution in the Region 1 market.[53] The English adaptation of the anime began airing on September 10, 2005.[55] The episodes have been shown on Cartoon Network's Toonami, YTV's Bionix and Jetix UK's programming blocks.[53] In the American broadcast, references to alcohol, Japanese culture, and even blood and death were sometimes reduced for the broadcast, but left in the DVD editions.[56] Other networks make additional content edits apart from the edits done by Cartoon Network, such as Jetix's more strict censoring of blood, language, smoking and the like.

Naruto: Shippūden

Naruto: Shippūden (ナルト疾風伝, Naruto: Shippūden? lit. Naruto: Hurricane Chronicles) is the sequel to the original Naruto anime and covers the Naruto manga from volume twenty-eight on. After training for two and a half years with Jiraiya, Naruto returns to Konohagakure, reunites with the friends he left behind, and reforms Team 7, now called Team Kakashi, with Sai replacing Sasuke. All of Naruto's classmates have matured and improved in the ranks, some more than others. Unlike the original series where they only played a minor role, the Akatsuki organization takes on the main antagonistic role in their attempts at world domination.

Naruto: Shippūden made its debut in the Philippines on January 28, 2008, on ABS-CBN as Naruto: Season 5. ABS-CBN is the first network outside of Japan to broadcast the new season. ABS-CBN has only aired the first 40 episodes of Naruto: Shippūden since the anime is still airing in Japan. Currently, it's now being aired over the cable channel Hero TV.[57]

OVAs

There are a total of four Naruto OVAs. The first two, Find the Crimson Four-Leaf Clover! and Mission: Protect the Waterfall Village!, were aired at the Shonen Jump Jump Festa 2003 and Jump Festa 2004, respectively, and were later released on DVD.[60][61] The third OVA, Finally a clash! Jonin VS Genin!! Indiscriminate grand melee tournament meeting!!, was released on a bonus disc with the Naruto: Narutimate Hero 3 video game for the PlayStation 2.[62] The fourth OVA, Konoha Annual Sports Festival, is a short video released with the first Naruto movie.[63] There is also a special feature included with the seventh Naruto: Shippūden compilation DVD based on the second ending of the series called Hurricane! "Konoha Academy" Chronicles.[64]

Movies

The first series has also spawned three movies, Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow, Legend of the Stone of Gelel, Guardians of the Crescent Moon Kingdom. Also during the series sequel one film called Naruto: Shippūden the Movie has been released while a second one Bonds is scheduled for release in August 2, 2008. In the United States, Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow has been featured while Legend of the Stone of Gelel and Guardians of the Crescent Moon Kingdom will be released in the 2008.

Novels

So far two Naruto novels written by Masatoshi Kusakabe have been released in Japan by Shueisha and also in the United States by Viz. The first, Naruto: Innocent Heart, Demonic Blood is based on the first arc of the series, and the second Naruto: Mission: Protect the Waterfall Village! is based in the 2nd OVA of the anime.[65]

Video games

Naruto video games have appeared on various consoles from Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, and Bandai. The very first Naruto video game was Naruto: Konoha Ninpouchou, which was released in Japan on March 27, 2003, for the WonderSwan Color. Most Naruto video games have been released only in Japan. It wasn't until March 7, 2006, when the first game of the Naruto: Gekitou Ninja Taisen series and Naruto: Saikyou Ninja Daikesshu series were released in North America under the titles of Naruto: Clash of Ninja and Naruto: Ninja Council that any Naruto games were officially available outside of Japan. These games featured the voices from the English dubbed version of the anime. Recently, two new Naruto games for Nintendo DS and Wii have been revealed at the Tokyo Game Show. Also, the fifth installment to the Narutimate Hero series has been announced. There was also a new Naruto game released for the Xbox 360, Rise of a Ninja and a completely different one for the Playstation 3 is being developed by CyberConnect2 and Namco for release in 2008. It was originally known as Naruto: PS3 Project, but it has received the official title of Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm.

Isono and Fuguta family

Sazae Fuguta (フグ田サザエ, Fuguta Sazae^?) (née Isono (磯野, Isono^?))

The main character. Age 24 (27 in the manga), born on November 22 in Fukuoka. In the beginning Sazae's mother was worried that Sazae was too unladylike to ever attract a husband, but she married Masuo.

Sazae's salaryman husband. 28 years old (32 in the manga). Born on April 3 in Sumiyoshi-ku, Osaka. After marrying Sazae, he moved in with her family.

Tarao Fuguta (フグ田タラオ, Fuguta Tarao^?)

Sazae and Masuo's 3-year old son. Usually called Tara-chan (タラちゃん^?). Born on March 18th.

Sazae's father and patriarch of the family. Age 54. Born on September 14. (Originally his birth year was given as 1895). Around the time of the Bon Festival, his doppelganger Meiji Revolution samurai ancestor Isono Mokuzu Minamoto no Sutamina haunts his dreams.

Sazae's mother. Age 50 (48 in the manga); born on January 11th in Shizuoka.

Sazae's mischievous little brother. Age 11. He was often suffered under the wrath of his older sister Sazae, when he refused to his homework or accidentally insults other guests in the manner of faux-pas. Same thing occurs for Namihei, his father when he usually finds out that Katsuo gets low grade on his tests. His main activity consist of playing baseball with his friends.

The names of the characters are derived from marine animals and things relating to the sea:

the Japanese family names Isono, Fuguta, and Namino: iso means beach, fugu means blowfish, and nami means wave
Masuo: masu means trout
Fune: ship
Sazae: turban shell - a kind of sea snail
Tara: codfish
Namihei: nami means wave
Katsuo: skipjack tuna, a type of fish
Wakame: the edible kelp commonly served with miso soup
Norisuke: nori, the variety of seaweed used to wrap sushi
Taiko: tai is sea bream
Ikura: salmon roe

The inspiration for the characters is said to have come to Hasegawa as she was strolling along the beach one day.

Although the comic ran for twenty-eight years, the characters never aged: Sazae was always 27 years old, her husband 28, her father and mother were always 54 and 48, and Sazae's siblings were around eleven and seven years of age, respectively.

The comic was very topical. In the beginning, Sazae was more interested in being herself than dressing up in kimono and makeup to attract her future husband. Hasegawa was forward-thinking in that, in her words, the Isono/Fuguta clan would embody the image of the modern Japanese family after World War II.

Sazae was a very liberated woman, and many of the early plotlines revolved around Sazae bossing around her husband, to the consternation of her neighbors, who believed that a man should be the head of his household. Later, Sazae became a feminist and was involved in many comical situations regarding her affiliation with her local women's lib group.

Despite the topical nature of the comic, the core of the stories revolved around the large family dynamic, and were presented in a lighthearted, easy fashion. In fact, the final comic, in 1974, revolved around Sazae's happiness that an egg she cracked for her husband's breakfast produced a double yolk, with Katsuo remarking about the happiness the "little things" in life can bring.

As the comic moved from the 1950s to the 1960s, the clothes the characters wore changed to fit the times. Sazae, who was famous for wearing a nondescript dark dress, now started wearing pantsuits and even the occasional miniskirt. Holding the traditional role of matriarch, Fune did not dress modern at home but wore Western clothes on family outings.

The comic strip was published in book form by Shimaisha (姉妹社, Shimaisha^?), which Machiko ran with her sister, Mariko. In April 1993, this publishing company went out of business and the comic books went out of print. The same year, Asahi Shimbun purchased the right to publish the forty-five paperback volumes. Selected comics have been published in the United States by Kodansha America, Inc.

In 1955, a radio station aired a serial drama based on the comic strip. The same year, a short-lived animated television series was started, and was aired on what is now TBS.

In November 1965, TBS started a dramatic television series modeled after the comic strip. It aired until September 1967.

In 1979, NHK made a dramatic serial which ran for six months, focusing on the creation of Sazae-san and Machiko Hasegawa in her younger days.

[edit] Sazae-san animated series

In October 1969, Fuji Television started an animated comedy series, which is still on the air today and currently in production (making it the longest-running animated TV series in history). It has been broadcast every Sunday from 6:30 to 7:00 p.m. and contains three vignettes. The animated series has some characters, like Katsuo's classmates, who don't appear in Hasegawa's original works.

The end credits for each episode include brief animations of some of the original comic strips, with the dialogue appearing in word balloons. Since November 1991, each show has ended with a janken match between Sazae and viewers at home.^[2] From 1969 to 1991, Sazae would toss a bean in the air and catch it in her mouth at the end of each show. This was often imitated by viewers. In 1990, a child choked to death after imitating the trick, and Fuji Television switched to the janken match.^{[citation needed]}

Sazae-san is now the last anime to use traditional animation.^[3]
